Today the Lexington Professional Fire Fighters IAFF Local 526 is honored to put our proud name behind Congressman Andy Barr and support his re-election to represent the Kentucky 6th Congressional District.  In his first four years in office, Congressman Barr has worked with the leadership of the Lexington Fire Fighters and supported      important legislation to fire fighters in Lexington and nationwide.

In his first term, Congressman Barr supported $340 million (H.R. 3547) in funding for the Staffing For Adequate Fire and Emergency Response and the Assistance to Firefighters FIRE ACT grants. The additional funding with FIRE AND SAFER grants allowed departments to hire, rehire and retain fire fighters and medics.

In this last session of Congress, Congressman Barr signed on as a co-sponsor to the Firefighter Cancer Registry Act H.R. 4625. This act will allow data to be collected and researched.  Fire fighters are routinely exposed to a variety to known carcinogens in chaotic and uncontrolled environments for significant periods of time.  Despite modern advances in personal protective equipment and clothing for fire fighters, such equipment is often inadequate or only partially effective.  This research through this act will better improve our understanding of cancer among fire fighters and could potentially lead to the development of more sophisticated safety protocols and safeguards.

For these reasons and because the Lexington Professional Fire Fighters IAFF Local 526 support those that support us we urge the citizens in the 6th Congressional District to re-elect Congressman Andy Barr this coming November.
