Our History, Our Mission, Our Future.

With a legacy spanning over eight decades, Local 526 has stood as a pillar for professional firefighters in our region.

August 10, 1937: Original Charter granted by the IAFF.

January 30, 1948: Joined the Kentucky Professional Fire Fighters Association.

November 7, 1995: Reorganized and granted our current Charter by the IAFF.

June 1, 2005: Ratified our first Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government.

630 Members: Standing strong together.

Mission Statement
Strength through united action, guided by intelligence; is the hallmark of organized labor. Such unity is vital for the mutual protection and advancement of the interests and general welfare of the Members; therefore, we have formed this Local.

 

Our Primary Objectives:

  1. To unite in one organization, regardless of creed, color, gender, or nationality, all firefighters eligible for membership.
  2. To promote the establishment of just and reasonable working conditions.
  3. To provide representation by the Local before groups or organizations that are responsible for pay, working conditions, welfare, and other matters affecting the Members of the Local.
  4. To encourage research, education, training, and to make available pertinent information to the Membership.
  5. To improve public relations and cooperation with other community groups.
  6. To improve the leadership and training of the Officers and Members of this Local.
  7. To encourage active membership and affiliation in appropriate labor groups.
  8. To participate on committees within the Local or in other groups whose decisions affect the welfare of the organization.
  9. To assist and counsel our Members in times of distress.
  10. To cultivate friendship and fellowship among its Members.
